Dan Monahan, Certified Educational Planner (C.E.P.), Athletic Specialist

Dan’s work as an educational consultant began over twenty years ago with roles inside of college admission offices and also within secondary schools as a school-based college counselor. Over the course of his career, Dan has read and evaluated thousands of applications and guided students to finding the right fit among colleges and universities around the globe. When working on the college side, he helped shape numerous incoming freshman classes and gained invaluable insight into what colleges look for in admissions applications.

Dan is a Chicago native and spent his undergraduate years at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA.  He was a History major at Holy Cross and played varsity football.  After graduation, Dan entered the college admission field.  He worked for several institutions including Rivier University, Saint Anselm College, Daniel Webster College, and Stonehill College.  At both Daniel Webster and Stonehill, Dan was the Dean of Admission and led the college's admissions and enrollment efforts. After Stonehill, Dan transitioned to college counseling on the high school side while working at Cheshire Academy and St. Andrew’s Sewanee School as the Director of College Counseling. He later assumed the role of Associate Principal at St. Bernard's High School in Fitchburg, MA where he oversaw college counseling and admissions for the school until the end of 2022. 

Dan was appointed as the Communications Chair of the New England Association for College Admission Counseling (NEACAC).  As a member of NEACAC’s Executive Board, he also serves as delegate to the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).  He previously was a member of the Board of Directors for the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC).  Dan is a Certified Educational Planner through the American Institute of Certified Educational Planners (AICEP) and is a Professional Member of Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA). Recently, Dan had the honor of being selected to serve on the Counselor Advisory Board at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida.

He also holds a Master’s degree in the field of Management in Nonprofit Leadership from New England College and a Graduate Certificate in College Counseling from the University of California, San Diego. He and his wife, Christine, have two children, Pat and Jimmy, and one dog, Penny, a rescued Great Pyrennes. They live on the campus of Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, MA.
